With the rise of Japanese whiskies over the years and special the Single Malt it will come as no surpise that I have this fine Japanses Single Cask on this website. Japanese Whisky industry is growing at such as fast pace it is now the second large supplier of SIngle Malt Whisky in the world and is now producing award-winning Malts with taste.
The Hanyu Single Cask Japanese Whisky is truely a great whisky and one to consume when you have the chance to do so. The tasting note for this whisky is as followings. (information regarding tasting below is from the www.one-drinks.com website and from the writer Gavin Smith.
Nose: Offers attractive floral characteristics, with malt and fresh fruits, plus an exotic hint of sandalwood. The addition of water releases darker, smokier notes.
Palate: Sweet and comparatively syrupy; apple pie and custard, with more spicy, citric elements emerging after dilution.
Finish: Lengthy and pleasantly dry. Ultimately slightly herbal. GAVIN SMITH
Distillery Details for Hanyu Japanese Whisky
Hanya Whisky Distillery history starts with the Akuto family who started a family business in 1626. It was not until the 19th generation of the family that Hanyu Distillery was built in Hanya City around 1941 and finally received a licence to produce alcohol in 1946. The family did not try to produce whisky for nearly another 35 years when the obtained two pot stills and the ability to produce Scotch type whisky. Every since this date there has been a change towards producing Single Malts mainly for the Japanese markets, but more recently the world as a whole. There first main Single Malt was Chichibu in 1990.
There was a main problem with the production of Single Malts and that is the maturing time that is necessary until your malt is ready to be consumed and this can be hard as all companies need income regularly. The distillery changed hands a number of times during the next few years and some of the stock that was in the process of being matured was in serious trouble of being throw away until Ichiro Akuto a relative of the founder of the Hanyu Distillery stepped in to save the Malts and founded a new company called Venture Whisky. This company then started to produce malts themselves and in turn the whisky distillery at Hanyu is now established as a world producer of fine whiskies.
This whisky is produced by the 'One Drinks Company'. This company have a number of distilleries throughout Japan including the famous Karuizawa distillery which was established in 1955 in the foothills of Mount Asama.
