Bushmills 5 Year Old Single Malt Whisky was bottled in the 1990's and is one of the most famous Irish Malts brand names. This Single Malt is no longer in production so is one of the most expensive bottles that come from Bushmills, but with the price at only just around £90 a bottle, it is one of great quality to have in your whisky cabinet. Bushmill is a light dram which makes it so different from the Scotch from the Scottish Lowlands. Distillery Details for Bushmills 5 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

The distillery is situated in Bushmills, County Antrim, Northern Ireland and received its official license in 1608. There is evidence that whisky could have been consumed 400 years before this date, but finding out information regarding this can be tricky.

Bushmills is the oldest working distillery in Ireland and even the world and has so much history surrounding the building it is a must tour if you are in the area. In 2005 the distillery was bought by Diageo and the strength of its brands grows as production was increased to meet the demand for the Bushmills whisky products. Of course we will not see the effect of this for several years to come as least at 5 years must pass before the Bushmills Blended Whisky is available in the market place.

The water source for Bushmills distillery is the St Columb's Rill which weaves its way around the distillery grounds before it finally joins the River Bush.

There is a massive rivalry between Bushmills and Jameson whisky brands that has been going on for years and at one point Jameson was winning this battle with Bushmills cutting its production, but Bushmills has fought back over the years and as I stated above Diageo are trying to double the distillery production by 2011.

In 2006 The Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky was given an award by the New York Time saying it was the best Irish Whisky on the market in this year. With this award it has increased the Bushmills branding, not that it needs much help within the Irish market in America

With the success of Bushmills and its international product, the Bank of Northern Ireland wanted to celebrate this and in April 2008 the reverse of bank notes showed a photo of the distillery in celebrations to mark the 400th anniversary.

The distillery has a visitor centre and would be more than happy to show you around this historic place and one that has showed over the years to be a very proud ambassador of Ireland. It is a must if you visit Antrim and are interested in the history of whisky like myself.
