This fine whisky brand is from the village of Bowmore on Islay a Hebridean island just off the West Coast of Scotland. This whisky has a vintage year of 1989 and was bottled as you can imagine 10 years later to produce a malt that I would recommend to everyone. It is bottled by Murray McDavid who tag this 'The Perfect Dram. The whisky has a peat taste with a pale colour to it. It has a long and refreshing aftertaste and you could describe it as having a salty sweet taste from the hint of fresh sea air. I would recommend this Single Malt if you get the chance and with the price around £45 it is worth every penny.

The distillery is set in a beautiful location on Islay on the shores of Loch Indaal and was built in 1779 by John Simpson. The distillery itself is owned by the Japanese distillers Suntory. The company has been good to the village of Bowmore as it gave up one of their warehouses to build a swimming pool for the local community which is heated by the whisky distilling process. The distillery is the oldest on Islay and there are over 12 different types of Single Malts produced and all have the taste of being near the fresh air of the sea .

Bowmore Distillery Visitor Centre is open throughout the year and visiting it is a must if you are on the Island. The cost of a distillery tour is £4.00 per adult, £2.00 for OAP’s, but there is no charge for under 18’s and would be a great experience for all to see a working distillery in a location of beauty. Awards in 2008 for the Distillery and Whisky at Bowmore.

The 2008 Malt Advocate Whisky Awards were in New York in November and the Black Bowmore was awarded the Scotch Malt Whisky of the Year. Also The White Bowmore was one of the best newcomers and was rated in the awards as being in the top ten new whiskies for 2008.
