Blair Athol Bicentenary 18 Year Old Single
Highland Malt Scotch Whisky
Information regarding Blair Athol Highland Malt Scotch Whisky
This brand from Blair Athol distillery is an 18 Year Old Single malt made in sherry casks to produce more flavour. It was produced to mark the distillery 200 years of producing whisky in the Scottish Highlands. This is not the only single malt that was produced to mark this event and you will find that Blair Athol also have a 12 Year Old which has a higher price of £699.00. Details are below where you can purchase both of these whiskies.
The 18 Year Old is 56.7% strength which is high for a Single Malt as distilleries try to make the strength around 40% and you could find yourself adding water to this malt to dilute the malt. I agree with this practice up to a point as adding water can bring out the flavours of the whiskies and produce a more relaxing dram.
Distillery details Blair Athol Highland Matl Scotch Whisky
The distillery is set in the Scottish Highland near the town of Pitlochry and uses the water source of the Allt Dour Burn for the distilling for its whiskies. It is believed the distillery started operation in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson but closed soon afterwards due to heavy excise duties brought in by the government. This did not put off Robert Robertson and he opened a new distillery in 1826 on the same site.
Over the years there have been a number of owners including Arthur Bell & Sons a part of the Diageo group. Of course with the owner being Arthur Bell, the whisky the distillery produces is a major component of the Bells Blended whiskies - the most popular blended whisky in the UK.
